Rutte will not disclose MH17-report
The report that a Dutch diplomat made a briefing of the Ukrainian government about the safety of the airspace in Eastern Ukraine is not made public.
That says Prime Minister Mark Rutte Friday during his weekly press conference.
Opposition parties CDA and D66 had asked to disclose the information that the Dutch diplomat from Kiev sent to the Cabinet.
According Rutte is 'really unwise' to make this information public because diplomatic conversations should remain confidential. As a record of the briefing would be made public, it would set a precedent that is harmful to diplomacy, the Cabinet.
Rutte: "If you invite countries to catch up confidential disclosure makes it impossible to organize that kind of talk."
Three days before the disaster of flight MH17 were several diplomats at the briefing in Kyiv updated on the security situation in eastern Ukraine.
The diplomat was informed that a Ukrainian cargo plane from a great height in the air had been shot.
MP Pieter Omtzigt (CDA) said in a previous comment that this information is crucial, because the cargo plane was shot down by six to seven kilometers. Battle Material that aircraft can get to that level, can also take a plane at ten kilometers, says Omtzigt.
Along with Sjoerd Sjoerdsma (D66) he demanded to the briefing. They want to know what information the government possessed and what is done with that information.
Information that the MPs do not get Rutte, even in a confidential briefing. Rutte find enough information that the government has brought out the report. The report is forwarded to the Dutch intelligence and investigative bodies involved, says Rutte.
"Harm to control function
Omtzigt finds it "extremely regrettable" that Rutte not make the report public. "Not even confidentially with the MPs. That complicates our control as parliament," Omtzigt tells NU.nl.
"I understand that talks that diplomats can be confidential, but there are press releases and photos of the briefing published. This was not a top-secret meeting," says Omtzigt.
"I'm not asking for the whole memo. I just want to know what's on the shot cargo plane to the government-controlled and what then is done with that information."
The government talks the House in the first week of February at the state of affairs concerning the investigation into the disaster flight MH17.
